Education Program

We have been administering the educational funds for a nursing
student, Albina Cal, for two years.  All funding coming from donations
in the U.S.  Two Peace Corp volunteers started this program while
living in the village of San Jose, which is about 35 miles from Punta
Gorda.  The concept is for Albina to work in the village as a health
care professional for two years after graduation.  Albina is scheduled
to graduate in 2007.

Some generous people from Boise, Idaho, U.S.A., are funding a
second student, Francisco Pop.  Francisco began classes at the
University of Belize in August, 2006.  His is working toward his
Associate Degree in Education.  Francisco is very exited for this
opportunity, his goal is to teach at the primary school level, in his
home village of Santa Elena. Francisco has been working for us at
the Coral House Inn since graduating from high school with honors.
He continues to work at the Coral House three days per week to
support himself while  attending the University.

Francisco has now finished the first semester with a 3.31 GPA.  We
are all very happy about the results of his hard work at U of B.

It is our intent to continue to administer higher education funding for
motivated and capable students through donations from our guests
and friends. We do the administrative work at no cost.   Many of the
young adults in this area are very capable but the cost of higher
education is often prohibitive.

Please let us know if you are interested in participating in this
program.
